Hello! My name is Dr. Amy Lee. I am a licensed clinical psychologist, board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA®), and licensed behavior analyst (LBA) in the State of New York. I am also a Health Service Psychologist (HSP) and a certified perinatal mental health expert. In addition to my clinical work, I am a former undergraduate and graduate-level psychology professor at the City University of New York (CUNY), where I taught students about psychological assessment and diagnosis, as well as evidence-based treatment and intervention approaches, while preparing them for careers in psychology and related fields. I am a co-owner of Kind Mind Psychological Services, which is a mental health group practice that focuses on training both pre-licensed and early-career mental health clinicians.I have worked in the mental health field for more than 10 years, with the majority of my clinical training focused on psychotherapy. Throughout my career, I have provided clinical services to individuals across the lifespan, including toddlers, children, adolescents, and adults. I have worked in a variety of settings, including community mental health centers, private practices, specialty clinics, and schools. Moreover, I have experience caring for patients across a wide spectrum of needs, ranging from mild to profound levels of care.In addition to providing psychotherapy, I have conducted comprehensive psychological evaluations addressing a wide range of concerns, including neuropsychological, psychoeducational, cognitive, psychosocial, emotional, neurodevelopmental, and personality functioning. My area of expertise is working with individuals who have a history of childhood and/or intergenerational trauma; most of whom identify as adult children from dysfunctional families who are still negatively impacted by their upbringing, as evidenced by their intrapersonal, interpersonal, and romantic relationship struggles. My other area of expertise is helping working professionals navigate their depression, anxiety, burnout, and high-achieving perfectionism.I specialize in helping individuals with:
general adjustment in new situations (e.g., relocation to NYC, changing jobs)
social/communication skills, especially boundary setting and emotional expression (**my personal favorite skills to help build in patients**)
friendships
romantic relationships (e.g., conflict resolution, co-dependency, future planning, preparing for a family) in a variety of arrangements which include: long-distance relationships, monogamy, ENM, and polyamory
work-related challenges (daily functioning, short-term disability, and family and medical leave (FMLA))
I am an active & direct psychologist who uses solution-focused strategies to facilitate meaningful change. When appropriate, I may assign between-session exercises—what I like to call “behavioral experiments”—to help you apply what we discuss in therapy to your everyday life. I use an integrative approach, allowing treatment to be flexibly tailored to your unique needs, goals, and circumstances. My clinical approach is integrative across a few treatment modalities. Generally speaking, my treatment approach leans towards behavioral principles and attachment theory, including object relations, while incorporating evidence-based strategies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) (for more information, check out my Treatment Approach page).Generally speaking, my goal as a psychologist is to help you learn from the past, focus on the present, and prepare for the future. I strive to help clients develop healthy boundaries, strengthen assertiveness skills, and build effective coping strategies for navigating life’s challenges. I also work collaboratively with clients to identify and challenge unhelpful or negative patterns of thinking and develop healthier, more adaptive ways of responding. In addition to my clinical experience, my research has been presented at national and international psychology conferences. I have also been invited to speak on a range of mental health topics at community centers, hospitals, schools, and universities.
